Luke Abbate is popular high school athlete, who plays lacrosse and football. When 15-year-old Luke dies in a car accident caused by a reckless teenage driver after lacrosse practice in February 2006, Luke's older brother Jon Abbate is motivated to have the Wake Forest Demon Deacons football team be successful in their upcoming season.
The plot is based on a true story, set in and around the events of the Wake Forest football team's 2006 season. Luke Abbate's parents set up a foundation in his honour - which gives scholarships to deserving students from Luke's high school and helps families deal with issues around reckless teenage driving.
Filming took place at Wake Forest University, Winston-Salem, North Carolina, from October 15 to November 20, 2008.
