Killer Joe is a 2011 American film written by Tracy Letts and directed by William Friedkin. The film competed in competition and premiered at the 68th Venice International Film Festival before making its North American debut at the 2011 Toronto International Film Festival, where US distribution rights were acquired by Liddell Entertainment. LD Distribution, Liddell's new theatrical distribution company headed by indie veteran David Dinerstein, are scheduled to release Killer Joe in July 2012. The story concerns a tough but quiet killer who befriends a young man, who in turn wants his mother murdered.

The film received an NC-17 rating from the MPAA, for "graphic aberrant content involving violence and sexuality, and a scene of brutality." After an unsuccessful appeal, Dinerstein announced plans to release the film uncut with the NC-17 on July 27, 2012.

Director William Friedkin won the Mouse d'Oro (Golden Mouse) at 2011 Venice Film Festival for the film. He was also nominated for Golden Lion at Venice.
